How to Install a Lydite Electric Net Fence – A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Introduction

Whether you're a seasoned rancher or just getting started with livestock, having a reliable fencing system is essential. Electric net fences are one of the easiest and most effective solutions for pasture management. In this guide, you’ll learn how to install a Lydite electric net fence—from site prep to setup—so you can keep your animals safe and your land organized.

1. What is an Electric Net Fence?

If you're looking for a flexible and effective way to contain your livestock, an electric net fence might be exactly what you need. This kind of fence is made from wires woven into a mesh, and it's connected to a power source that sends out a harmless but memorable shock when touched. It's often used for animals like sheep, goats, and chickens.
Lydite's electric net fences are tough, weather-resistant, and easy to install—whether you're setting up a permanent pen or something temporary.

2. Why Choose Lydite Fencing?

You might wonder what makes Lydite different. With over 10 years in the industry, Lydite has been providing electric fencing solutions trusted by farmers and ranchers around the world. Our fences are simple to set up, easy to store, and effective in keeping your animals safe and where they belong.

3. Tools and Materials You’ll Need

Before you get started, gather these items:

* Lydite electric net roll
* Fence posts (included)
* Fence charger (solar or plug-in)
* Grounding rod and wire
* Fence voltage tester
* Ties or clips
* Safety gloves and rubber boots

Tip: Choose your energizer based on the type and number of animals you’re fencing in.

4. Preparing the Site

4.1 Choose a suitable area on your pasture or farmland where you want to contain your animals. Look for natural boundaries or logical sections of the field you want to divide.
4.2 For best results, pick relatively flat ground. If there are uneven areas, don't worry—Lydite netting can adjust to gentle slopes or bumps.
4.3 Use a mower, trimmer, or even a grazing path made by your vehicle to clear tall grass or weeds that might interfere with the fence's conductivity. Keeping vegetation low under the fence line is important for consistent voltage.
4.4 If you plan to install a long fence with multiple net rolls, it helps to position the rolls along the fence line ahead of time. Drop them at equal intervals before you start installing.

5. Unrolling the Net

5.1 Untie the straps and undo the metal clips on the roll.
5.2 Hold all the posts together in front of you and unfold the net like an accordion.
5.3 If your net is tall, grab a friend to help. It'll save you time and frustration.

6. Installing the First Post

6.1 Find the starting post—it usually has tie strings and a stainless steel connector.
6.2 Place it near a sturdy object like a wooden post or another fence.
6.3 Use the tie strings to secure it firmly, and make sure it’s not touching anything metallic or conductive.

7. Laying Out the Fence

7.1 Lift the rest of the posts as a group and start walking backward along your fence line.
7.2 Let each post drop into place one by one as the net unfolds.
7.3 Don’t rush—keep the net from tangling by keeping a steady pace.

8. Connecting Multiple Net Rolls

8.1 Place the end post of the first roll next to the starting post of the next roll.
8.2 Use the tie strings to connect the two rolls securely.
8.3 For the electrical connection, match the stainless steel male and female clips by hand. Don’t use tools.

9. Adding Support Posts

At corners, ends, or curves, you should use extra support like FiberRods or PowerPosts. This keeps your net from sagging or collapsing.

10. Connecting the Charger

10.1 Attach the top clip of the net to the fence terminal of your charger.
10.2 Ground the charger using the bottom terminal connected to a grounding rod.
10.3 For Pos/Neg nets, attach the second clip to the ground rod.

11. Testing the Voltage

Use a voltage tester to make sure the system is working before introducing animals.
The voltage should read at least 3000 volts. Don’t let it drop below 2000 volts.

12. Adjusting or Moving the Fence

In many cases, especially on larger pastures, you won’t need to take down your fence right away. But there may be times when you want to rotate grazing areas, reconfigure your layout, or make seasonal adjustments.
12.1 First, turn off the power supply to stay safe.
12.2 Walk along the fence line, carefully removing the posts one at a time. Gather them together in a tidy bundle.
12.3 Let the net fold naturally into pleats behind you. This makes it easier to move and redeploy later without tangling.
12.4 Remove any twigs or grass caught in the netting as you go. This saves time when you reinstall it.

13. Rolling and Storing

13.1 After folding, lift the net and shake it lightly to release folds.
13.2 Roll the net from the end without posts, toward the posts.
13.3 Use the original straps to tie it up tightly.
13.4 Store it in a dry, rodent-free area, away from feed or animals.

14. Final Safety Tips

* Always keep the net powered when animals are inside.
* Don’t use the net as a physical barrier—it’s meant as a mental one.
* Watch your animals the first time you let them in.
